Not one to miss out on the opportunity to start a whole new army from scratch, I jumped at the chance when talk of Vanquish 2015 cropped up. I settled on Imperial Knights, but with a difference! Click for more info.
With the Black Templars gone and the replacement Marine army (Blood Angels) still very much in the WIP stages of assembly and painting, I decided to use the opportunity to create something new. The Vanquish comp is quite strict in places but allows, strangely, the use of both 30k and 40k armies at the event. I’ve always been a fan of big stompy robots, but also like being a “special snowflake”. With this in mind, with a cunning plan, I turned to the Questoris Knight Crusade Army List featured in Book 4 of the Horus Heresy series.
Imperial Knights in 40k suffer from lack of AA to defence against Flyers, as well as being susceptible to Drop Pod Melta. This balances them. Imperial Knights have taken the competitive 40k scene by storm and you’ll notice a fair few tournament lists are taking them as allies, either as Allies to support a larger force, or taking Allies themselves to shore up their weakness. Luckily with the 30k Knight list, you don’t need to dilute your big stompy awesomeness. You can have a whole army of Knights. STOMP STOMP STOMP!
My list will be as follows:
HQ – Seneschal – Cerastus Knight Lancer – 460pts
Cerastus Shock Lance, Ion Gauntlet Shield, Occular Augmetics
Troops – Scion Martial – Questoris Knight Errant – 385pts
Thermal Cannon, Reaper Chainsword, Bio-Corrosive Rounds, Ion Shield, Occular Augmetics
Elites – Preceptor – Questoris Knight Paladin – 405pts
Questoris Battlecannon, Reaper Chainsword, 2 x Bio-Corrosive Rounds, Ion Shield, Occular Augmetics
Heavy Support – Scion Arbalester – Questoris Knight Styrix – 465pts
Volkite Chierovile, Twin-Linked Rad Cleanser, Hekaton Siege Claw, Graviton Gun, Ion Flare Shield, Occular Augmetics
I’ll discuss the different upgrades in a later post, but having already played three games with this list, it certainly doesn’t lack killing power! I think what the Imperial Knights are going to struggle with is any scenario where mobility and Tactical Objectives are key… so most games.
But these will be no ordinary Knights, oh no! These will be CHAOS KNIGHTS! Each of the four Knights will be dedicated to one of the Chaos Gods. I have started converting the four Imperial Knights models to and they are looking suitably heretical. Sadly you’ll have to wait for a future blog post to see the models, but the wait will be worth it!
Are you preparing an army for a tournament? Have you played an all-Knight army? Do you hate the fact that everyone is jumping on the Imperial Knights bandwagon? If you want to answer yes to any of those questions, let me know in the comments below!
Until next time!
