Welcome Back To Mount Olympus
Like a (slightly hungover) phoenix rising from the ashes of 2014, The Twelve Olympians blog is born again anew into 2015. No, there’s no need to clap.
After a brief break from blogging to spend time with our respective loved ones and families over Christmas, the Twelve Olympians are all gearing up for what looks to be an absolute monster of a year.
Apart from wanting to wish you all a very Happy New Year, I wanted to chat about stuff we’re excited for in the future.
What Will 2015 Bring?
If the rumours are to be believed, there’s a 40k Adeptus Mechanicus Codex on the horizon, or maybe an Eldar Halequin Codex. Or maybe both. We’ll have to wait and see.
In the immediate future we have the next installment in the epic End Times series for Warhammer Fantasy, this time starring the dastardly Skaven. There are already some images floating about of the new Thanquol and Boneripper model and let’s just say it looks like Boneripper has been hitting the gym big-time since he was last released.
On the subject of Warhammer Fantasy there is even talk of a new edition mid-way through 2015. We’re not a rumour site, but no doubt when the new box comes out there will be an unboxing and a review, and possibly some (naturally) awesomely painted models from one or more of us.
Back into the world of 40k, where the bases tend to have less corners, there’s the obvious big reason to look forward to the next Games Workshop release. The new Necron Codex is coming!
There are so many reasons to be excited as a hobbyist right now. Games Workshop are absolutely pumping out the releases right now; whether it’s the excellent campaign books in the form of The End Times or Shield of Baal, or perhaps the stunning models from Forge World that keep on arriving in my email inbox. 2015 looks to be filled with equally fantastic models, as well as some new surprises.
Not only that, but X-Wing enthusiasts will be excited by the imminent arrival of the Scum and Villainy faction, as well as the recently teased Imperial Raider! This great little game as really captured the hearts of most of the Olympians, who love the fast-paced tactical space warfare that X-Wing allows, as well as the shorter games and quick set up/pack up time!
It would be remiss of me to make a post about new and exciting releases without mentioning Infinity. This game from Corvus Belli has just seen the release of N3, the latest installment of rules for the sci-fi skirmish game that has recently become very popular. The models are stunning, the rules are free (http://www.infinitythegame.com/archive.php) and the game is fantastic. If you haven’t already, grab yourself a copy of Operation: Icestorm to learn the basics and prepare yourself for some D20 fun.
Even those of us who are into Magic: The Gathering have the latest release, Fates Reforged, to look forward to. As I said, exciting times all round.
Ladies and Gentlemen, thin your paints, unblock that glue and prepare your wallet. 2015 will be epic. In the immortal words of Ray Arnold – Hold onto your butts!
Over the next few days, I’ll be pestering the rest of the Olympians and asking their hobby resolutions for the new year, as well as asking for a few retrospective thoughts on 2014.
After that, you can expect more madcap army ideas from me, Ares, more beautifully painted miniatures and detailed tutorials from Hades, more stunning conversions from Zeus and Apollo, and overall just more hobby awesomeness from everyone!
Until next time, Happy New Year!
