As a quick break from painting Skeletons I decided to start putting together a Pirate Warband for Mordheim that I have been planning for a while. More after the jump:
So I decided to start off with making the Heros this week, as to be honest they are the most fun to do and I needed respite due to being half way through a unit of skeletons (the first of 3 large units) for the Vampire Counts army I am currently working on. The Problem I tend to have with Mordheim Warbands is choosing which one to start, but having already made a Witch Hunter Warband and a Undead one I wanted to do a normal human group. Whilst at some point I will add some normal Mercenaries to my collection the lure of the sea was too much for me so a Pirate Warband it is.
Made from a combination of Empire bits including the body from the artillery kit this is the Captain who will currently be leading my Warband. The backstory in my head around this guy is that he is a disgraced Marienburg trader who has turned himself and his loyal crew over to a life of piracy. At some point I hope to get hold of the old Warhammer Sartosa Pirate model who will likely replace this guy as the main man in the crew.
This is the first of the mates (champions) for my crew. I wanted a duelist type model as the first mate so I went with lots of pistols from the Empire Pistolier kit. The one thing I am not sure about on this model is the head so that may well change before I start painting.
For the second Mate I had the idea in my head that this guy would be responsible for keeping discipline on the ship. A quick addition of the whip and key from the Flagellant kit was perfect for him. Obviously his is an unpopular job, I like to imagine him as being very bad tenpered with a bit of a drinking problem (thus the bottles). Hopefully as I progress in a campaign his progression can reflect this.
Cabin boy number one is the youngest member of the crew, charged with keeping moral up he has been given a flute from the Empire Handgunners kit to entertain his fellow crew members. The second cabin boy is the ships pet monkey, I decided to have him standing on a chest so that his eye line remained similar to the rest of the human sized crew.
There is still a bit of work to be done on these guys, some gap filling and adding some smaller details like equipment packs. Next week I’ll go over the various members of the crew and hopefully show the finished warband together
